PTI-Backed Sunni Ittehad Council Nominates Hamid Raza for PAC Chairman

Islamabad: The PTI-supported Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has chosen Hamid Raza as its nominee for the position of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, as per ARY News. After completing consultations within the party leadership, Raza’s nomination for the PAC chairman’s role has been finalized. Previously, PTI founder Imran Khan had nominated Sher Afzal Marwat for the same position. However, the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat reportedly decided against appointing SIC’s Sher Afzal Marwat as the PAC Chairman, clarifying that the selection is not restricted to opposition members. Sources indicate that Noor Alam Khan of Maulana Fazalur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is likely to be elected as the PAC Chairman by the parliament. Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq is expected to announce the decision soon. According to the NA Secretariat, both treasury and opposition members are eligible for the PAC chairman’s position, as per the law and house rules. Noor Alam Khan, who previously served as PAC Chairman after a successful vote of no confidence against former Prime Minister Imran, is reportedly the frontrunner for the role. The PAC is formed jointly by the National Assembly and the Senate, with its members elected by members of both houses. Subsequently, the PAC members select their chairman to lead the committee.
