PTI founder Imran Khan appointed three focal persons following an agreement with Adiala jail authorities regarding standard operating procedures (SOPs) for conducting meetings within the facility. The document, signed by Khan and the jail superintendent, designates PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Barrister Umair Niazi as focal persons. According to the SOPs, each focal person will nominate two individuals weekly for meetings with Khan, scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, allowing interactions with family and lawyers. Meetings are restricted to 30 to 45 minutes, with a maximum of six visitors per session.
The agreement aims to address concerns raised by the Punjab government, which recently restricted jail meetings due to security alerts following the arrest of three terrorists with explosives and maps of Adiala Jail. The move prompted criticism, with PTI insisting on Khan’s right to meetings despite security concerns. Investigations into the arrested terrorists, believed to be Afghan nationals, are ongoing.
Earlier, an explosive device was found near Adiala Road, adding to security apprehensions in the vicinity. Despite challenges, the agreement signifies a concerted effort to facilitate lawful interactions while maintaining security protocols within the jail premises.
