Islamabad (CNI NEWS)The federal cabinet endorsed the establishment of an inquiry commission to address allegations made by Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges, with former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, designated as its head, as reported by private News channel. This one-member commission will investigate the claims outlined in a letter by the judges and is slated to deliver its report within 60 days. During the cabinet discussion, non-relevant individuals were excused from the room. The authority to appoint the commission’s head was vested in the Prime Minister, with unanimous support from cabinet members.
The judges of the IHC, including Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Saman Fafat Imtiaz, forwarded a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on March 26, urging a judicial convention to address alleged intelligence agency interference in judicial affairs.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, emphasized the judiciary’s independence during discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, leading to an agreement to establish the inquiry commission. Prime Minister Sharif assured to convene a federal cabinet meeting for approval. Jillani, a renowned former Chief Justice, brings decades of legal acumen to this role, having received international recognition for his judicial contributions and landmark rulings on fundamental rights and minority protection.
