Iranian President Raisi arrives in Karachi

(Web Desk) Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Karachi on Tuesday evening for the second day of his official visit to Pakistan, marking the first visit by a foreign head of state since the new government took office after the February 8 elections.

In preparation for Raisi’s arrival, major thoroughfares in Karachi were closed to traffic as part of security measures. Alternate traffic routes were provided by the city’s traffic police to minimize disruptions.

During his visit, Raisi paid respects at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum in Lahore, emphasizing the special connection between Iran and Pakistan. He expressed a desire to address a public gathering in Pakistan, although logistical constraints prevented it.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz welcomed Raisi and his delegation at Allama Iqbal International Airport. Raisi commended Islamabad for its principled stance on Gaza and highlighted the significance of Allama Iqbal’s legacy, which resonates deeply with Iran.

Upon his arrival in Islamabad the day before, Raisi engaged in a series of meetings with Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Army Chief Gen Asim Munir. The visit culminated in the signing of eight agreements between Pakistan and Iran, aimed at enhancing cooperation in various sectors such as trade, science, agriculture, health, culture, and judiciary.

Among the agreements signed was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing the Rimdan-Gabd Joint Free/Special Zone, reflecting the commitment to fostering economic collaboration between the two nations.

The visit underscores the strengthening of bilateral ties and the shared aspirations for regional peace and prosperity between Pakistan and Iran.
